The short version
  • ·Owen Wilson’s golf comedy ‘Stick’ returns with its first two Season 2 episodes on Apple TV on November 4, 2026.
  • ·In refusal studies, giving people a short phrase to use made them feel freer to decline than simply telling them they could refuse. Whether it changed their actual behavior was not clear.
  • ·Excuse me is an MVP exploring a scheduled call as a backup when the words get stuck. It is still being prepared for launch, not a replacement for a direct, polite exit.

What should Owen Wilson searchers know?

‘Stick’ Season 2 arrives November 4, with two episodes on day one.

According to Apple’s schedule, the ten-episode season opens with two episodes on November 4, 2026, followed by one each Wednesday through December 30. Owen Wilson returns as former pro golfer Pryce Cahill, who bets on himself and attempts a comeback.

There is no need to force a connection between the show and a fake-call app. But the release date gives us a place to ask a separate, everyday question. A comeback may be Pryce’s decision on screen; why can the simple decision to leave a long dinner feel so difficult off screen?

Why is ‘I should get going’ so hard to say?

Because leaving can sound like a negative judgment of the other person, and the right polite words can be hard to find on the spot.

Research on refusal describes saying no as a threat to face in a social interaction. Turning down a request can seem to imply something negative about the requester or the request itself, putting the refusal at odds with norms of politeness and respect.

Leaving a gathering is not identical to refusing a request. But the hesitation has a similar shape: ‘I want to go now’ might be heard as ‘I am not enjoying being with you.’ The desire to leave gets crowded out by the question of how that desire will look.

Is knowing you may leave different from knowing what to say?

Yes. People given an actual refusal phrase felt freer to choose than people who were only told they had the right to refuse.

Across two experiments, requesters either told people they could refuse or supplied specific words such as ‘I’d rather not.’ Those given the words found it easier, more comfortable, and freer to decline. The researchers’ interpretation is that a ready-made phrase reduces the burden of inventing a polite response under pressure.

The difference in actual refusal behavior, however, was not statistically conclusive. A short sentence does not erase every social pressure, and these experiments did not test leaving a party.

Still, they offer a practical hint: decide on your sentence before you need it. ‘I’m going to head out. Thanks for having me.’ You do not need a long explanation to pair appreciation with a clear exit.

Can a fake call replace those words?

No. A short, direct sentence is the simplest option; a scheduled call is only a backup for when the words get stuck.

Excuse me is a scheduled-call app for people who endure an uncomfortable situation because saying no is hard. A thumb swipe selects who calls and when; at that time an incoming-call screen appears. Answer, and the caller speaks briefly, then leaves room for you to respond. The MVP tests whether a first-time user can schedule it one-handed without instructions, and how natural the call seems to people nearby.

A scheduled fake call arrives; when you answer, the caller speaks briefly, then leaves room for you to respond.

It is currently being prepared for both iPhone and Android, so it is not available in app stores yet. And its purpose should not be overstated. It cannot teach you to say ‘I should get going.’ It can only offer one more cue to stand up when those words catch in your throat.

Frequently asked questions
Can I install Excuse me now?

No. It is an MVP being prepared for iPhone and Android, and it is not yet available through public app stores.

Does a real person call you?

No. A scheduled fake call arrives; when you answer, the caller speaks briefly, then leaves room for you to respond.

Do you need a fake call to leave?

No. ‘I’m going to head out. Thanks for having me’ is simpler and more direct. A scheduled call is just a backup for people who struggle to say that in the moment.
